The PER group, led by former postdoc Emily Smith (now teaching assistant professor at the Colorado School of Mines) and including work by physics graduate students Martin Stein and Cole Walsh, recently published “Direct Measurement of the Impact of Teaching Experimentation in Physics Labs” in the journal PRX. As far as we know, this is the first-ever PER publication to be featured in PRX, described as “a high-impact, online-only publication that offers global free access.” This work, which comes directly from the Active Learning Initiative program in the physics department, was summarized in this Cornell Chronicle article.
Prof. Holmes also published another article, “Developing scientific decision making by structuring and supporting student agency” in the journal Physical Review Physics Education Research.
